How Merino Wool is Produced?

Merino wool is a natural fibre grown by Merino sheep consuming natural ingredients like sunlight, water, fresh air and grass. As a result of consuming natural ingredients, Merino Sheep can produce 4 to 5 pounds of wool per year.

It is exciting to know that this oldest known animal fibre is composed of natural protein i.e. Keratin which is found in human hair. Each fibre is covered in scale which is important in making woollen clothes.

The Many Uses of Marino Wool

Merino Wool is remarkably outstanding wool. Despite being widely available and inexpensive, it is one of the softest and most luxurious wools available in the market.

Shirts, Blouses and even tank tops are made with merino wool. It is also used to make blazers, blankets, sportswear etc. Due to its softness and hypoallergenic nature, it is ideal for baby blankets and clothing.

The most popular application of merino wool is in sweaters. It is made with fine fibres and is softer than cotton.

Since it is very lasting and durable, thus the application is also seen in area rugs and carpets. It has natural temperature-regulating properties that make it perfect for year-round use.

The Performance Benefits of Merino Wool

I. Thermo Regulating: Merino wool has a natural climate regulating system. Its breathable qualities make it perfect for all-year clothing.

II. Cooling & Warmth: In hot weather, the fibre absorbs body moisture vapours and releases them outside the fabric, keeping the body cool. In winter, the moisture condenses inside the fibre, releasing heat to keep the body warm.

III. Odour Resistant: Merino wool absorbs odour molecules and releases them upon washing, keeping you fresh even in hot conditions.

IV. Quick Dry & Wrinkle Resistant: Merino wool releases water easily and its elastic nature makes it wrinkle-resistant.

V. Easy to Wash: Stains are not easily absorbed due to the protective outer layer of merino wool fibres.

VI. Does Not Itch: Merino wool fibres are soft and flexible, bending gently against the skin without irritation.

VII. UV Resistant: The natural UV barrier protects against harmful sun radiation unlike synthetic fabrics.

VIII. Renewable: Merino wool is produced from natural resources like air, water and grass, making it sustainable.

IX. Biodegradable: Merino wool decomposes naturally and sustainably within about 12 months and is completely biodegradable.
